Type

From PokeHero Official Wiki
This page contains changes which are not marked for translation.

Types are properties applied to Pokeheroes and their moves, which affect the power of moves in battles. There are 10 types, with 8 regular types and the special Glitch and God types. The regular types are largely based on character archetypes in japanese manga and anime.

A Pokehero may have either one or two types. Pokeheroes with two types are known as dual-type Pokeheroes. With this system and there currently being 8 regular types and 2 special types, there is a total of 30 unique combinations of types.

All moves have exactly one type each. The type of a damaging move typically determines which types of Pokehero it is super effective against and which types of Pokehero it is not very effective against. If the type of a move matches one of the types of the Pokehero using it, it gains a boost in power.

Reason: Need to validate effects of effectiveness on damage with devs

Damaging moves typically vary in effectiveness depending on the move's type and the type(s) of its target.

Type effectiveness greatly influences how much damage moves deal:

  • If the type of a move is super effective against a type of its target, the damage is doubled;
  • If the type of a move is not very effective against a type of its target, the damage is halved;

For targets that have multiple types, the type effectiveness of a move is the product of its effectiveness against each of the types:

  • If the type of a move is super effective against both of the opponent's types (such as an Energy-type move used against a Fighting/Element Pokehero), then the move does 4 times the damage.
  • If the type of a move is not very effective against both of the opponent's types (such as a Mental-type move used against a Normal/Ninja Pokehero), then the move only does ¼ of the damage.
  • If the type of a move is super effective against one of the opponent's types but not very effective against the other (such as an Element-type move used against a Sword/Demon Pokehero), then the move deals regular damage.

Reason: Need to validate effects of STAB and Gun, and if held items affecting moves other than Normal-type exist

When the type of a move matches one of the types of the Pokehero using it, the attack power will be increased by 50%. This is referred to as same-type attack bonus, or STAB for short.

Some held items affect moves of a certain type, such as the Gun that raises the attack power of Normal-type moves by 20%.

When a Pokehero has two types, those two types are always listed in an order specific to the Pokehero. This order changes which moves from each type the Pokehero will learn by leveling up, meaning that a Normal/Fighting Pokehero and a Fighting/Normal Pokehero will not necessarily have the same movepool, even though they technically have the same type combination.
